Bowhill Miners Institute Exhibition
Ore Valley hosted a mini exhibition telling the history of the Old Reading Rooms in Bowhill, Cardenden, more commonly known as the Bowhill Miners Institute. We purchased the building several years ago and renovated it into 10 socially rented flats that were made available to let in 2024, marking 120 years since the building first opened.
Although we originally understood that the building opened in 1937, this was incorrect and sent us back to the archives to research the true history of the building. We are proud of the work that went into restoring the original facade and side elevation of the building, with each existing brick hand pointed in the traditional method that would have been used at the time of its original build.
The exhibition aimed to capture a forgotten story that needs to be told for those who are passionate about the community in which they grew up in and have fond memories of this culturally important building.
We have elected to share the various footage we sourced from across the internet showcasing the building in its various guises. All footage remains the copyright of the relevant rights holders and is shared here for educational purposes only.
