If you got an infestation of cockroaches or mice, would you know what to do? Would you know who to call or how much it would cost? No? Well help is on hand!
Ore Valley will take care of pest problems in communal areas such as bin stores or stairwells, if you see anything that needs reporting call us on 01592 721917. We don't cover pests or infestations inside the home, unless you're dealing with rats. All other pests on private property will have to be dealt with by you, the tenant.
You needn't hire a private company to deal with any pest problems you may have, as Fife Council has a department especially for pest control. Extermination is unfortunately not a free service for housing association tenants, (even if you are claiming benefits) and the cost is £53.82 per treatment. However you can be provided with over-the-phone advice for free! Fife Council's website has loads of excellent information on how to take care of those pesky bugs!
Your payment details are required when booking a treatment.  Payments can only be taken between 8.00am - 5.00pm and 5.30pm - 8.00pm. If you wish to use this service, call the Environmental Health number on 03451 55 00 22.

Tips to Prevent Pests!

Limit where you eat

Make a rule that eating is only done in the kitchen and dining areas. Eating around the house may leave crumbs in places you wouldn't think to clean - and bugs love crumbs.

Tackle spills quickly

Just like the messy floors, spills can attract bugs. Stop this by checking that you've wiped up every last bit!

Keep drains clean

Be sure that any slow moving drains are cleared and cleaned. Many bugs come indoors searching for water. Be sure to repair any leaky sinks and drains in your home.

Wipe down bottles

After you've used a bottle or jar, wipe down the outside of the bottle and the lid. Residue on your containers can be a bug attraction, especially when it comes to honey, peanut butter or jam!

Be careful of fruit and veg!

It's hugely important for you and your family to eat fresh fruit and vegetables, however when they're past their best, fruit and veg will attract ants and flies.

Clean clothes before storing

Dirty clothes attract bugs so it's important to only store them when clean. It's especially important when it's (finally!) warm enough to put away those winter coats.

Clean out the recyclables

Be sure to rinse out plastic, glass, and metal containers that are being recycled.

Clean rubbish containers

Washing down the insides and outsides of your rubbish and recycling containers is a monthly job. It's easiest to do this outside with a garden hose and a long-handled scrub brush.

Put a lid on your rubbish bin

Lids on bins will keep bugs out, keep smells in, and keep infestations away.
