Lochgelly based Zodiac School of Dance, run by Stacey Gunnwill be moving into a new home next month as they currently refit the ground floor of the Lochgelly Miners' Institute into fantastic dance studios.
The dance school have been running classes for over a decade in the Lochgelly High School Community Use and thank the staff over the years for a great service.
The former Lochgelly Miners Institute was built with money from the Miners Welfare Fund during 1923 to 1925.
It was built for the benefit of the public and community of Lochgelly with a Reading Room, Community Rooms and a Dance Hall.
In the 1940’s the first floor, Dance Hall, was utilised during the weekdays as a sports facility, particularly for table tennis, badmington and boxing. After the Second World War there were alterations which would allow it to be used as a Library, and for special dances and weddings. The Institute in later years was used as a training centre but closed in 2013.
Ore Valley Business Centre are keen to have the Institute used for it's original purpose for the community of Lochgelly and bring the spirit of dance back to the town and that's where Zodiac School of Dance comes in.
The official opening of the studios will be on Saturday 24th October 3pm to 5pm when all are welcome to have a look around and pick up any information on classes we will be offering. Our next intake of pupils will be after our dance show which is on Friday 13th and Saturday 14th November 2015 in the Lochgelly Centre Theatre. Our new dance term will start on Monday 16th November.
Stacey, dance school manager, says, "I'm very excited to be taking on this project and bringing something great to the community of Lochgelly which will create a fantastic dance programme for the kids of Lochgelly and the surrounding areas and also a fitness programme for adults."
