As of the end of December, we are owed just below £90,000 in unpaid rent from current tenants.

The Festive season seems to have taken its toll as there was a significant increase in rent arrears in the three months leading up to January. Our Housing Team will be working hard over the next few months to try and reduce this amount.

Remember - your rent pays for the service we provide. 84% of our entire income is from rent, and arrears mean we can't provide as much support as we could, because we just don't have the money to.

We understand that being in debt is scary. We want to support you if you are struggling. However tempting it is to bury your head in the sand, facing your issues head on is the best way to deal with them and with the right support you will be able to get your finances in order and feel better for it.

If you are concerned about your debt, or are struggling to cope with your financial situation, you can speak to our Tenancy Support and Wellbeing Officer, Danielle, who can help you and put you in contact with the appropriate services. You can contact her on: 01592 721 917.

If you want to speak to someone not from Ore Valley, a good place to start is Shelter Scotland. Shelter provides housing advice and you can contact them on 0808 800 4444 from 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday.

You can also speak to a debt advice charity such as Step Change on 0800 138 1111 (Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm, Saturday 8am to 4pm) or the National Debt Line on 0808 808 4000 (Monday to Friday 9am to 8pm, Saturday 9.30am to 1pm)
