OVHA has strong links with its local community thanks to its wide-ranging involvement in a number of local initiatives and activities. The association has representation on the local Tenants and Residents group, Local Environmental Group and other local community projects.
Recent successes include the establishment of a community Christmas tree in the community garden area in the centre of Cardenden.
OVHA directly supports community life through a variety of means including its community recycling project, 2nd Time Around, which provides a variety of recycled homewares and white goods at a nominal cost, helping residents keep their cost of living down and sustaining tenancies and homes.
Beyond this, the Association has recently completed the development of a business incubation centre in Lochgelly. The Ore Valley Business Centre provides various flexible and affordable work spaces for growing companies as well as various support services. The intention is that this facility will support job creation in the local area.
Previously, OVHA led on the salvation and redevelopment of the Lochgelly Miners Institute, an iconic building at the heart of Lochgelly that lay derelict for many years. It now houses Adam Smith College and the Fife Women's Technology Centre and is once again an integral part of community life.
